Countertop Filter for the "Green" Consumer

By Jennifer Strauss

Through the easy installation of a countertop filter, drinking water that tastes good and is safe can become available through taps. Along with countertop filters, diverter valves are available, which can be used to attach faucets with the filters. The countertop filter's diverter valve can be used to replace the faucet aerator, in order to obtain clean tap water. A countertop filter can help clean cysts, volatile organic chemicals, lead, chlorine and by-products of chlorine, out of the water.

Using a decanter in combination with a Countertop filter, water can be bottled. Countertop Filter can help to effect savings in this way, as the water filtered by it can replace bottled water for those who drink only bottled water. Water supplied by municipalities sometimes has bad odor and taste due to the presence of substances like by-products of algae and these can be removed by Countertop Filter. Minerals like calcium, potassium and magnesium are not removed by Countertop Filter, even as harmful substances are removed. These minerals are beneficial for health and these taste good as well.

The standard aerator i.e. the part where the water comes out from the screen, has to be replaced with a diverter valve, so that a countertop filter can be fitted with the kitchen faucet. The countertop filter provides water for the kitchen faucet in this manner. By pulling the valve handle, water can be diverted via the filter, so that dishes can be washed in the sink or water can be obtained for drinking. If a pull-out sprayer type of faucet is in use, fitting of a countertop filter may not be possible, however.

Regarding the water filter's placement at the faucet, there are different countertop filters available in the market, with different designs. A design that makes the output of water available at the water filter's housing and a design that makes the output of water available at the kitchen faucet are among these. Before a purchase is made and before the most appropriate design choice is decided upon, a careful analysis of his or her needs can be carried out by the customer.

The countertop filter that is in use should, in a dependable manner, remove contaminants from the water. The time that an individual is able to spare from his or her lifestyle is also a factor upon which the kind of water filter in use may depend. Relatively maintenance free countertop filters may be sought to be acquired by those who find themselves hard-pressed for time.

In order for operations to continue, cartridge replacements are not required by the products with a carbon granule filter. In terms of better-graded and improved cartridge pore structure or in terms of more effective cartridges replacing less effective ones, especially in terms of the materials used for their production, technological advances' benefit may not reach those who use filters of that kind, however.

Moistening of the fibers on account of the water's passage leads to absorption of contaminants, due to diffusion. Fickian diffusion is used by mechanical filtration. The possibility of mechanical filtration should be available with the use of a Countertop filter. So, certain things should be examined carefully by those who want to buy a Countertop filter, before they purchase it. Relatively maintenance free Countertop Filter are, therefore, likely to benefit the the purchasers, on account of the longer life of the cartridge.

So that it is effective, a countertop filter should also perform electrokinetic absorption. The unwanted particles in the water produce an electrical field. Electrokinetic absorption can be carried out by some countertop filters, which make use of that field. A good countertop filter should carry out physical absorption as well. In countertop filters of the advanced type, the activated carbon filters carry out ion exchange and micron filtration.
